Philo Hayward, sailor, singer, songwriter and owner of Philo's Music Bar opens his doors to aspiring musicians who want to showcase their talent. Philo helps them record their CDs in his studio; and, in exchange, they perform for Philos' patrons. Even international artists are drawn to the area - smitten by how new talent is embraced and by La Cruz's laid back feel.
Philos is such a gathering place that it actually serves as a community centre, offering an English program and The Friendship Club of La Cruz (close to Philo's heart) which helps raise money for local residents. Quite an eclectic mix, but then again, that is La Cruz de Huanacaxtle - a little bit of lazy mixed with a little bit of luxury; authentic traditional with chic modern - what's not to love?
